With this approach I integrate:

NLP

Gestalt,

Behavioural,

Cognitive Behavioural,

Psychosynthesis and

Solution Focused modalities.

For couples: Imago Relationship Therapy

I also use Emotion Freedom Technique (EFT) which is aimed at overcoming phobias and resolving emotional/psychological trauma from the past which affects and disturbs one in the present or future. EFT has also been called 'tapping' and 'psychological acupuncture'. It accesses the left and right brain hemispheres in a way that gets results that other methods may not.

NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming

NLP is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, US in the 1970s. Its creators claim a connection between the neurological processes ("neuro"), language ("linguistic") and behavioral patterns learned through experience ("programming") and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life. Bandler and Grinder claim that NLP can treat problems such as phobias, depression, habit disorder, psychosomatic illnesses, myopia, allergy, common cold, and learning disorders, often in a single session.

NLP is predominantly used in counselling to examine a client's habitual patterns of behaviour and to enhance performance. This is accomplished through investigating a client's beliefs and belief systems and to help change these where appropriate.

I will provide you with the opportunity to share your problems or issues while enabling you to feel safe and accepted.  More than likely you will feel able to work through difficult feelings, discover new resources and gradually gain a deeper experience and acceptance of yourself and others.

There are times in life when people experience distress or crises, which they may need to share and explore in a supportive environment.

Family and friends are very important sources of support during difficult times.  Yet, people sometimes find those they are close to get upset or find it difficult see the situation objectively.

This means it is sometimes hard for them to help in the best possible way. Deciding to see a counsellor does not necessarily mean you are not coping or have a psychiatric disorder.  People usually go to a counsellor in order to make improvements in their lives or to cope with or create changes in their lives.

I offer the opportunity to gain useful ´tools for living´, which we do not learn through normal education.

I does not offer advice but offers support and helps people find their own solutions to issues by discovering new strengths and ways of coping with difficulties.

My style is about the process of helping a person find their own answers through dialogue, learning about one’s psychology, thinking together and exploring feelings with an objective, skilled professional.

Issues or areas that I am qualified to treat are:

  • Parenting

  • Stress

  • Anxiety/Panic Attacks

  • Depression

  • Post-natal Depression

  • Bereavement

  • Anger Management

  • Relationship issues

  • Work/career issues

  • Low Self-esteem and confidence

  • Eating disorders

  • Substance abuse/addictions

  • Sexual identity issues

  • Lack of motivation

  • Behavioural problems

I am trained in Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT) which was developed by Harville Hendrix and Helen La Kelly Hunt based on their experience of working with relationships, including their own marriage and through brilliantly synthesising the work of other renowned relationship experts and thinkers.

Their first book “Getting the Love You Want – A Guide for Couples” has frequently been on the New York Times best seller list since first published in 1988.

Imago is renowned for its dialogue technique. It focuses on building trust in relationship by teaching powerful, effective, common-sense communication skills which can very quickly create a feeling of safety. Many couples immediately experience an opportunity to connect more deeply with their partners, helping to appreciate them more and revive hope in their relationship.

Imago offers a clear way of understanding the journey from romantic love, through to disconnection, frustration and conflict, and a proven method for restoring relationships back to energetic connection, passion and hope.

Counselling Supervision for Counsellors

"

I have a Diploma in Supervision from a reputable training institute in London (CCPE). I am experienced in supervising counsellors. However, I am open to offering supervision to other health professionals also such as social workers, osteopaths, massage therapists.

Supervision is essential in the counselling profession. However, supervision can be very helpful in other professions when dealing with others such as when transference or countertransference may arise or where boundary issues may be causing problems such as demanding or distant clients or difficulties around dealing with money.

The counselling supervision I offer counsellors is something unique to NZ because of my training in London. With 20 years experience, I have a lot to offer the supervisee. I am skilled at the 6 mode matrix - an in depth, insightful, empowering approach. Supervision is process orientated and can involve , dream interpretation, transpersonal work as well as Person centred, Behavioural, CBT, Gestalt, Psychosynthesis, Transactional Analysis and Solution Focused Therapies.
